I collected neat little toys like bookmarks, pencils, animal-shaped erasers, and beautiful hair ribbons for my students. I use them for behavior control in my studio. Some children do not like to sit for half an hour straight and be told what to do, but when they are rewarded for good behavior most of them become very quick to comply.

I find that this reward system, in which good behaviors are instantly reinforced, is very effective in making children concentrate and learn what they need to learn. Also it motivates them to practice hard at home so that when they come back to the studio the following week, they will be rewarded for playing well.

Because of the attractiveness of the presents, it becomes a big deal which present to choose when they behave well and are permitted to select one. Some children leave their name tag on a particular present so that they know next time they are rewarded, they get to take home the present they most desire.
